Post Surgery Photo of Ed's Eye

Here is a picture of Ed's eye one week after the corneal patch surgery. The specialist took the picture in his office and emailed it to us. The fungus had destroyed a section of the sclera (white part) of eyeball, so the specialist had to cut that section out to cut out the fungus 'clutch'. The clear corneal patch then was stitched over the whole dissected part. This meant that there is what looks like a second pupil in the corner. This is actually where the sclera was removed along with the fungus. It was too big a piece removed to sew it together. In time, the specialist hopes the dark area will 'scar' over and turn white again. If you look closely, you will be able to see the stitches.
I have described more about this surgery on the first post of this blog.
